He Actually Cares!

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

We are finally seeing Impact World Tour (IWT) coming through North Queensland. It’s been two year in the making but it’s finally here. The teams started to arrive last week and headed off to Mt. Isa on Sunday. The tour will be happening there in the next few days. It will come here to Townsville on August 10th. The base here has been pretty crazy getting last minute details set in place and trying to house an additional 100 people. We are expecting to see hundreds even thousands of people come to know the Lord over the next month. God has been so good not just to our ministry but in my personal life to.

He seems to care about every little detail of my life no matter how small. You may have seen in my last article “This is What God Does” how God miraculously provided for me. I guess that demonstration of God’s faithfulness wasn’t just for me. Even our Communications ministry area has begun to see so many fruits of the spirit. We have joy in our work and encourage one another. I know I’ve asked many of you before to pray that I’d find joy in what I do. God is actually answering those prayers. He acutally cares!

Once again thanks to all who are praying for me and continue to read my updates. Keep praying for me and this ministry.

One last thing, I like to include every once in a while projects I’ve been making. This latest one is for the IWT team ‘Island Breeze’. It will get played on the night they perform and includes there logo and the sponsors for the event. If you’d like to see it check it out below. We also just produced a document(shown in picture) that outlines what Reef to Outback is. I’ll probably be sending some out in my next mailout. This video was made with After Effects 6.5 PRO using the ‘Shine’ plugin from Trapcode for those of you who are interested.

A New Reel

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006

You may have remebered when I posted a ‘Reel’ a few months back. It’s basically a montage of all the work I’ve done for the past while. I’ve made a new one that is much the same as the old one but includes a few more clips of things I’ve been working on in After Effects. Our SDC (School of Digital Communications) internship will be starting soon and I’ll be teaching After Effects throughout it. Enjoy.

Behind the Scenes

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

The past few weeks we’ve been focusing on video in the School of Digital Communications (SDC (School of Digital Communications)). We’ve had Jordan Dodson from New Zealand as our guest speaker for the last two weeks. He’s been covering everything from compressing video to the film industry. Last week the students were working in pairs to make a short 5 minute film. They had to come up with an idea, write a script, and shoot their film. Here’s a behind the scenes look of Justin and Sugi’s movie titled ‘Day Off’. I’ve also posted the finished movie. Chris and Vicki also came up with a great movie titled ‘Matches’. Just scroll down to see this movie also. If you want to see other work from the SDC check out: sdc.josiahritner.com

Musical Graduation

Saturday, June 3rd, 2006

Last night the School of Music in Mission (SOMM (School of Music in Missions)) graduated. They have been working hard since January to use their musical talents to glorify God and further the gospel. As many of you may know there is someone I love who was on the SOMM and graduated last night. Sara got up and gave an amazing testimony of how God used their team on outreach. The best part is that I don’t have to really describe it for you cause I got the video.

Meet the Students of SDC ’06

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

You met Justin Claypool last week. Now you can see the other seven students who are currently doing the School of Digital Communications here at Reef to Outback. For those of you who don’t know I’m currently staffing the school with Josiah Ritner. Things have been going quite well and we are now moving into video. As I write they’re all working on their Motion projects. I hope to have their videos posted within the next week so check back soon. For now check out this video I made in our studio. Each student did a short testimony of what they’ve been learning.

What they’ve been learning

Thursday, May 11th, 2006

To give you a better idea of what the students on the 2006 SDC (School of Digital Communications) are learning I’ve put together a short video. We’ve covered three programs so far, all to do with print media. This video features Justin Claypool speaking on cross cultural week.

Missing the Fury of Larry

Friday, March 24th, 2006

As many of you may have already heard cyclone Larry hit the coast of Australia on Monday (March 20). It was a category 5 with winds gusting to 290KM/h. The good news is that Townsville was spared and was only hit by the bottom edge of the cyclone. The bad news is that that town of Innisfail (pop 8000), which is located 250KM north of here, was destroyed. Right now our base is looking at ways we can help out. We probably will not be able to help on a large scale, but they have been looking at sending a few people.

Sunday we spent part of the day preparing the base for the storm. We took down the large tarp covering the deck and moved everything we could find inside. We’re still waiting because there is another cyclone just off the coast brewing in the Pacific. It looks like noting will come of it though. Please keep Innisfail in your prayers as many people have lost everything. I’ve made a short video of our preparation for the storm and when the acutal cyclone hit.

Even Jesus Showed Up

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

After 36 hours and several hours worth of delays I made my way back to Townsville, Australia last week. I was greeted by some small changes and some work to do. The real fun came on Saturday night though. As many of you know we held a cafe every Friday where people from the surrounding community came for live music and good conversations. We have now moved it to Saturday night, and this week a crowd of over 600 came to see ‘Team Extreme’ perform. Team Extreme is apart of ‘Impact World Tour‘. They basically share the gospel through their acts of strength during a high energy performance. At the end of the night they ask people to repsond and come forward if they would like to give their life to Jesus. By the end of the night over 90 people came forward. I put together a short video of the night, enjoy!

So that’s what he’s doing

Wednesday, February 1st, 2006

Many of you know that I work in the communications department at Reef to Outback, but are still unsure of what I actually do. I put together a short ‘reel’ of my work. This is just the video work that I’ve been doing. It’s quick so keep those eyes sharp! For all the geeks out there here’s some of the programs/equipment I use:

Adobe After Effects 6.5 Pro
Adobe Photoshop 7
Adobe Illustrator 10
Final Cut Pro 4.5
Soundtrack
Sony PD-150 Camera
iMac 20″ 2.1Ghz

Most of this work is done in After Effects.

We Love our Coffee

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

“I got Starbucks!”

This is usually the routine response when a staff member recives a package from home and contains the addictive, yet delicious drink we know as coffee. Starbucks seems to be a real staff favourite around here. Since we got our espresso machine several months back for the Friday Night Cafe, the quality of coffee has really gone up around base.

My job is to run the coffee department with Stephen Bryde every second week. It’s usually pretty hectic, so I put together a short video to give you a feel of what goes on.

You’ll need Quicktime 7 or later to view this video
